Spark Medical is a North West-based independent, paramedic-led ambulance provider that builds, mobilises and equips professional ambulance crews delivering out-of-hospital care across the country. They also provide medical cover for sporting events, festivals and community occasions.
Intellitec supplies power management systems to NHS Trusts, and in 2020 supplied equipment for an all-electric ambulance in front-line service.
Leading edge upgrade
Spark Medical’s Managing Director, Matt Kelly, saw an Intellitec ambulance project in the nearby workshop and ordered a retrofit OLED HMI electrical system for one of his Renault ambulances, replacing its dated and unreliable system.
Enhancing user interaction
The new system uses the iConnex programmable controller, automating emergency lighting outputs triggered by a single “999” button while retaining diverse interaction options. Previously, separate rocker switches controlled scene lights and airport beacons from various dashboard locations.
OLED keypad
A 4-way iConnex keypad clusters all controls into one unit designed specifically for ambulance applications. Inside the patient compartment, the same keypad operates dimming, trauma lighting, spotlights and climate control. Intellitec offers 3-way, 4-way and 6-way keypads in a range of colours, each individually programmable to customer specifications.
Further system enhancements
The siren now integrates with the steering wheel horn button, switching automatically when blue-light mode activates. A reverse horn function aids pedestrian safety during manoeuvring and can be muted via the keypad.
