Kia Sorento: retrofit cruise control for towing
The Sorento is a long-standing favourite with caravanners and anyone who needs a big SUV with a proper tow bar. Owners of the ones without a speed hold notice it on every mile they tow.
Built to pull
The first Sorento was a body-on-frame off-roader, and later ones became more car-like, but all of them have been bought to pull boats, caravans and trailers. Owners do long holiday drives with the family aboard and a load behind, which is exactly when a set speed would ease the trip.
Early and late Sorentos are very different
A first-generation Sorento and a recent hybrid share a name and little else. The electronics changed a great deal between them, so a cruise part needs to suit the specific car, not just the badge. Getting it wrong is how a tow car ends up off the road just before the holiday.
A Sorento program
Your Sorento gets a program written for it in Chorley, then follows the SUV's own network for speed, never through a throttle actuator. List the build year, engine and transmission, flagging a hybrid if it is one. Nothing ships until that Sorento's setup has been signed off.

Questions about the Kia Sorento
- My Sorento has plug-in hybrid drive. Should I say so?
- Yes. The powertrain affects the program, so we need to know which you have.
- Is the Santa Fe the same job?
- The Hyundai Santa Fe is related but has its own separate page and gets its own program.
- Can a newer Sorento be done without cutting wires?
- An inductive, no-cut connection exists; our engineer says whether your Sorento is a candidate.
