Nobody bought a CR-Z to be a motorway cruiser. It was the fun hybrid, the little coupe with sharp steering. Anyone commuting in a CR-Z now finds the stiff ride is fine, but holding the throttle steady for an hour is not.
A small coupe with a hybrid heart
Honda paired a petrol engine with an electric motor in a low two-door body, and plenty were sold with a six-speed manual. That makes the CR-Z unusual among hybrids, and it means the driver works the clutch and accelerator more than in most economical cars. On a long stretch of dual carriageway the effort adds up.
Why enthusiasts leave it alone
CR-Z owners are enthusiasts, and many have looked into retrofits and decided not to risk it. The hybrid system shares its network with every other module in the coupe, and nobody wants a car they cannot easily replace sitting in a workshop with a fault nobody can explain. So the ache wins by default.
