Engine runlock

Renault Master engine runlock

A Renault Master on a box body or dropside spends half its working day parked with kit on board that wants power. The driver has to leave the cab, work the lift or unload the bay, and come back to a van still turning over. Abandoning a key in the Master's ignition to make that happen is a habit most transport managers would happily break.

Big bodies, hungry equipment

Masters get built up into lutons, refrigerated boxes, tippers and welfare units, and every conversion adds something that draws current. A tail lift cycling through a multi-drop round, or a heater keeping a crew room warm, leans hard on the battery once the engine stops. Keeping the motor going is the simplest way to stay ahead of that demand.

Two bad options at the back doors

Without runlock the driver picks between poor choices. Switch off and risk a van that will not crank by mid-afternoon, or leave it chuntering away, key in, cab open, while they are round the back with a pallet truck. Neither sits well with an operator who answers for the vehicle and everything in it.

A unit set up for your Master before it ships

CAN KONTROL RUNLOCK holds the Master's engine running once its key has gone, and the cab can still be locked behind the driver. It knows what the van is doing by listening on the CAN bus: ignition state, the Master's speed, where the handbrake sits, and whether a pedal or door has moved. Touch a pedal, let the Master's handbrake off or swing its cab door open against the agreed conditions, and the van reverts to its everyday behaviour.

Body builders can fit it during the conversion, so the van leaves their workshop ready for its first shift.

Questions about the Renault Master

We run Masters on several different bodies. Does each one need its own unit?
Every Master gets the same hardware. What differs is the setup, which is done per van and per body before dispatch, so tell us what every body type needs to power.
How does a driver lock the van with the engine running?
That varies with the van and how its locking is arranged. Our engineer confirms the method for your particular Masters when you make contact.
What happens when a Master reaches the end of its lease?
Pull the unit out and have it reprogrammed for whatever replaces the van. We do not charge for that new configuration.
