The scenario
A minibus converter is building welfare and accessible vehicles that add saloon lighting, powered doors, destination signs, heating and passenger equipment to a base chassis. Wiring each function conventionally means a heavy loom, long build times and a fuse box that is hard to diagnose in service. On PSV work, the start battery also has to be protected against parasitic loads when the vehicle stands overnight.
The solution
- iConnex replaces the relay-and-fuse loom with a small set of CAN modules and keypads. Saloon lighting, doors, signs and ancillaries are switched through the programmable module and controlled from 3, 4 or 6-way keypads or the OLED switch panel.
- The PSV Battery Guard protects the engine-start battery, disconnecting non-essential loads before the battery is discharged too far to start.
- Switch panels and keypads give the driver a clean, labelled interface instead of a bank of toggle switches.
- For larger or more complex builds, a task and power management controller handles the full vehicle logic.
The result is a lighter harness, faster and more repeatable builds, and standard behaviour that is set in software. London bus operators run an Intellitec multiplex system.
