Cruise control retrofit

Adding cruise control to a Hyundai ix35

Hyundai sold the ix35 between two generations of Tucson, and plenty are still going strong as family and towing cars. If yours was built lacking cruise, a long tow or a holiday drive makes that very obvious.

A used favourite that tows

Second-hand ix35s are popular because they are roomy and robust, and owners often hitch a modest caravan or box trailer to them. Towing at one fixed speed is calmer and easier than towing with a wandering foot, so the missing feature matters more with something on the back.

Pedal work with a load behind

With a trailer attached, every rise in the road pulls the speed down and every descent pushes it up. Correcting that by hand for two hours is tiring, and the outfit feels less settled. Holiday traffic does not help.

Our ix35 module

An ix35 program goes in at the Chorley factory; the unit then tracks the crossover's speed from the bus and never touches the throttle. Note the engine, transmission and drive layout. If you are weighing up the newer model too, the Tucson page covers that car.

Questions about the Hyundai ix35

Should I mention that I tow?
Yes. The engineer likes to know how the ix35 gets used, and towing is part of that.
Is an ix35 the same as a Tucson?
Related, but separate on our list. Read the rear badge out to us and the program matches that car.
Could a competent DIY owner fit it?
Someone at home with vehicle wiring might; otherwise use an auto electrician. We can explain what fitting involves on your particular ix35.
