Adding cruise control to a Mazda 2
The Mazda 2 tends to be someone's first car, or the small second car on the drive, chosen because it is cheap to run. Then it ends up doing the long visits to family in Devon or Aberdeen. A good few Mazda 2s were sold minus cruise, and owners miss it once the motorway miles pile up.
Light car, eager right foot
A willing little petrol engine makes the 2 feel quicker than its size, which is part of the problem. Over a long dual carriageway the needle drifts past the limit, you brake, and it drifts again. A set speed ends that seesaw and frees your eyes for the traffic.
Why a universal kit is a false saving
Old-style cruise kits pulled on a throttle cable. A modern Mazda shares its information over a data network instead, and a part that misreads it can make the hold drop out at random or leave the switches feeling vague. For a small car bought on good sense, that is money spent twice.
