Cruise control retrofit

Suzuki Baleno: retrofit cruise control

The Baleno is roomier than its size suggests, so it often ends up as the family's long distance car as well as the runaround. Without cruise, the visits to relatives two counties away are where the gap shows.

More car than the badge suggests

Plenty of Baleno owners chose it for its roominess and light running costs, then found themselves doing proper mileage in it. A cabin that size invites long trips, and long trips are exactly where keeping the needle still with your foot wears thin.

Speed creep and camera anxiety

Without a hold, speed drifts up on a downhill stretch and sags on the climb after. Through average speed zones that means eyes flicking to the speedo instead of the road. It is a tiring way to drive, and passengers notice when the driver gets tense.

Fitted from the data side

Our unit listens to the Baleno's CAN traffic for road speed, then picks up a set speed, keeps it, drops out when you touch the brake and returns to it on request. Nobody needs to go near the pedals, and there is no actuator. Tell us whether the car is manual or automatic so the setup matches how you drive it.

Questions about the Suzuki Baleno

Suzuki has sold more than one Baleno. Does that matter?
It does, which is why the first questions are about age and engine. An engineer then goes over the Baleno on your drive before a unit is made.
Will the cruise cancel when I brake?
Yes. Cancelling, setting and resuming are all part of what the unit does, and the controls you use for them are agreed before it ships.
Is it made abroad and rebadged?
No. Our sister firm Scorpion Automotive puts each one together at its Chorley electronics plant in Lancashire.
