Cruise control retrofit

Volkswagen Crafter: retrofit cruise control

Crafters are big working vans, and many of them become something else: minibuses, ambulances, Luton boxes, workshops on wheels, campervans. Whatever gets built behind the cab, the driver up front is often doing long runs with no cruise fitted.

From parcel route to camper conversion

Delivery firms run Crafters on fixed routes. Converters turn them into motorhomes that head for Scotland or the continent each summer. Both groups find out the same thing: a large van without cruise is tiring to drive for hours at a time.

Passengers, payload and public scrutiny

A converted Crafter carrying passengers, or wearing a business livery, is watched by everyone it passes. Speed creeping over on a downhill stretch is a risk to the people on board and to the operator's name. For a minibus operator, keeping to posted limits belongs with running a safe service.

Set up for each Crafter

CAN KONTROL CRUISE monitors speed via the Crafter's network, leaving the throttle free of any actuator. The Crafter changed considerably between generations, so every vehicle is identified before its unit is programmed. We build for 12V or 24V systems, selected at setup, and units can be reprogrammed when vehicles change.

Questions about the Volkswagen Crafter

We build motorhomes on the Crafter. Can you supply us regularly?
Yes. Give us your typical build volume and the bases you use, and configurations can be agreed before your next batch.
Our new Crafters are still under warranty. Can the wiring be left uncut?
That is what our inductive pickup option is for. We will tell you whether it is right for your Crafter.
Does a heavier Crafter need a different unit?
Each unit is configured to its vehicle, so include gross weight, body type and engine so we can match it.
