Engine runlock

Vauxhall Astra J runlock for response fleets

An Astra J on a response or pool fleet rarely belongs to one driver. It moves from one shift to the next with its radio, terminal and chargers still in use, and drivers come and go at the station while the car is still needed. Each handover is a chance for the key to be left in a running car.

Cars that never really rest

When a fleet car works around the clock, equipment stays logged in and charging between users. Shutting down at every changeover means rebooting kit and draining the battery during the wait. Crews would rather keep it all going.

Who has the key?

A busy yard at shift change is where keys get left in ignitions. The outgoing driver steps away, the incoming one is still in a briefing, and the car sits running and open. It only takes one bad day for that to become a story.

What runlock gives the Astra J

With CAN KONTROL RUNLOCK the outgoing driver takes the key out and hands it over while the Astra keeps running, and it is lockable in the meantime. Ignition and road speed are read off the Astra J's CAN bus, along with handbrake, pedal and door activity. The incoming driver sits down, lets the handbrake go or brakes, and the Astra is a normal car again. For later cars on the same fleet, see runlock for the Astra K.

Questions about the Vauxhall Astra J

Can every Astra J on our fleet be set up the same way?
Yes. Describe what each car powers, and matching setups go onto every unit before dispatch, so drivers meet the same behaviour in any car.
What if a driver opens the door without thinking?
If that door opens while the configuration says it should stay shut, runlock ends and normal behaviour returns. Our engineer will run through the conditions chosen for your fleet.
Does it help with flat batteries?
Yes, because the engine stays on while the Astra sits in the yard, so the kit is not living off the battery alone.
