Engine runlock

Runlock for the Ford Transit Mk5

The Transit Mk5 is the base for ambulances, police carriers, chilled delivery vans and all sorts of conversions. Each of them carries equipment that has to keep working at the scene, on the drop or on site, while the crew is busy away from the cab.

The Mk5 as a base vehicle

Converters build ambulances, prisoner and public order vans, welfare units and refrigerated bodies on the Mk5. The equipment varies hugely, but the demand is the same: steady power while the vehicle is stood still and nobody is at the wheel.

Crews make their own trade-offs

Faced with a draining battery on one side and kit that needs the engine on the other, crews leave keys in the column. At a busy incident or on a street drop, that is an open door for anyone. Switching off to be safe leaves the equipment without power, which is no better.

How we supply runlock for the Mk5

CAN KONTROL RUNLOCK is configured for your Mk5 and its role before it leaves the Chorley factory. Withdraw the key and the engine keeps turning, and the Mk5 can still be locked. With the conditions not met, any pedal input, a handbrake release or the driver's door opening returns the Mk5 to its everyday state. If your specification currently lists a CANM8 Advanced Runlock part, our CANM8 cross-reference helps you find our equivalent.

Questions about the Ford Transit Mk5

Can converters fit it during the build?
Yes. Send a list of base vehicles and the equipment on each build, and every unit arrives configured for its van.
Our fleet mixes Mk4 and Mk5 vans. Is that a problem?
No, we cover both. Note which vans are which and our engineer configures each unit for its own vehicle.
What if a van changes role partway through its life?
The unit can be rewritten whenever needed, and reconfiguring it is free, so it can follow the van into its next job.
