Touaregs do heavy work for their owners: towing horseboxes and plant trailers, carrying rural response teams up farm tracks, sitting at a trailhead while a team heads out on foot. A base vehicle in remote places

When a team works away from the car for hours, it carries radios, lighting, a heater for casualties or the crew, and chargers for handsets. Remote spots mean no other power source. The Touareg's engine is the generator.

Keys in remote car parks

Rural car parks and lay-bys are quiet, and a large SUV left running unattended is an obvious target there. Switching off protects the key but leaves the cabin to cool and the battery to sag. With a trailer still hitched, a dead battery is a long walk.

The Touareg setup

CAN KONTROL RUNLOCK is configured for the Touareg in Chorley. Once fitted, the key can leave with the team while the engine runs on, and the Touareg can be locked. The unit keeps track of the car through its CAN bus and returns it to normal once a pedal is touched, the handbrake comes down or someone opens the driver's door against its settings.
