Ford Transit Custom CAN bus interfaces
The Ford Transit Custom (2013 to the current model) works with the CAN KONTROL range on the i2CAN platform. Runlock, reverse cameras, parking sensors, road speed, fleet speed limiting and central locking are all configured to the vehicle and confirmed for the Transit Custom. One unit covers the builds with and without the Ford OBD gateway, set at installation.

Why installers fit CAN interfaces to a Transit Custom
The Transit Custom is the UK's best-selling van and one of the most converted vehicles on the road, working across fleet, welfare, recovery and utility roles. Almost every conversion needs to take a signal from the vehicle, and on the current models those signals sit on the CAN bus rather than on a wire you can splice. The i2CAN platform reads them off the bus and switches real outputs, so cameras, beacons, tracking, welfare equipment and security go on cleanly without cutting into the factory loom.
Since the 2020 model, some Transit Customs carry Ford's OBD gateway module and some do not, which changes how the bus is read. Where other suppliers ask you to inspect behind the OBD socket and order the matching variant, one CAN KONTROL unit covers both, set at installation, so there are no wrong-variant returns.
Which interface suits the van depends on the job:
- Welfare, CCTV and camera vans that idle unattended with the cab locked use runlock.
- Fleet and insurance-led operators hold the van to a set maximum with the speed limiter.
- Long panel vans add a reverse camera and parking sensors off the bus, with no splice at the rear.
- Recovery and highway vehicles run beacons and high idle, conditioned on road speed and ignition.
One part, both builds
The Transit Custom with and without the Ford OBD gateway is one configuration, so there is nothing to check behind the dash before ordering.
Reconfigurable and free updates
Set to the vehicle and reprogrammable, so a unit can move to another van if the fleet changes. Configuration updates are free.

Ford Transit Custom: frequently asked questions
- Does the runlock fit a Ford Transit Custom without the OBD gateway module?
- Yes. One configurable unit covers the Transit Custom with or without the black Ford OBD gateway, set at installation, so there is no need to inspect the vehicle or specify a variant before ordering.
- Can I add a reverse camera to a Transit Custom on the CAN bus?
- Yes. CAN KONTROL CAMERA reads the reverse state from the Transit Custom CAN bus and switches the camera and monitor, so there is no splice into the reversing-light circuit at the back of a long van.
- Which years of Ford Transit Custom are covered?
- The Transit Custom from 2013 to the current model. Every configuration is set to the vehicle on the i2CAN platform. If your year or variant is not listed, tell us and we confirm.
- Can one van have more than one interface fitted?
- Yes. Each CAN KONTROL line is configured for its function and several can be fitted on the same Transit Custom. Tell us everything you need to add and we confirm the units and configuration.
