Cruise control retrofit

Adding cruise control to a Nissan Elgrand E51 or E52

Most Elgrands in Britain came over from Japan as used imports, bought by big families and by people who wanted a lot of comfort for the money. Some arrived lacking cruise, which hurts most in a large people carrier on a long motorway trip.

Japanese market cars on British roads

Imported cars do not always match a UK specification, and equipment varies from one Elgrand to the next. Owners often learn what theirs has only after buying it. If cruise is not on the list, the first long holiday drive makes the gap obvious.

Where imports trip people up

Parts listings rarely know what to do with a grey import, and generic modules are normally written with European cars in mind. Fitting one to an E51 or E52 on the hope that it will cope is how owners end up with a part that never works and nobody able to explain why. It is a frustrating way to waste money on a car bought to be enjoyed.

Our way with the Elgrand

Let us know whether it is an E51 or E52, its engine and, if you have it, the date it was first registered in Japan. An engineer checks what the Elgrand's network carries and sets CAN KONTROL CRUISE to match before it ships from Chorley. The Elgrand's speed comes off the bus, so nothing is linked to the pedal, and switch placement is agreed so it makes sense in that cabin.

Questions about the Nissan Elgrand E51 E52

My Elgrand has Japanese-language screens. Does that matter?
Not to the module, which works from vehicle data rather than the display. Pictures of the Elgrand's wheel and column switches still help us.
Is the E52 just a newer E51?
No. The E52 is a later generation with its own electronics, so each is checked separately even though they share an entry with us.
Can an import specialist garage fit it?
Yes. Any competent auto electrician can, and if your garage contacts us as trade we sort out the specifics with them.
