If you are asking whether you need the CANM8 RUI tool, you are looking at how a CAN interface gets programmed and kept up to date. The RUI is CANM8’s own programming and diagnostic tool, and some CANM8 products require an RUI V3 purchase to unlock updates. That is a separate item to buy and maintain alongside the interface itself.
How the i2CAN-8 does it
The i2CAN-8 is a configurable vehicle CAN interface, designed and built in-house by Intellitec. Because you deal with the manufacturer directly, vehicle configuration and updates are handled by us. We program the module to the vehicle and application before it reaches you, and when a configuration needs to change we provide the update. You do not need to buy a separate programming tool to keep an interface current.
Where it differs
The difference here is a policy one, stated plainly.
With a tool-gated approach, keeping interfaces current means owning and maintaining the programming tool, and in some cases paying to unlock updates. With the i2CAN-8, that work sits with us as the manufacturer. If a vehicle is not yet supported or you need a signal that is not on the standard list, we can develop and configure it and provide the update. One configurable box, 12V and 24V, and the manufacturer handling the software side.
Fitting notes
The i2CAN-8 takes two connections to the CAN bus wiring, plus a fused permanent supply and earth. On vehicles under warranty it can read the bus with a no-cut inductive connection, so the native loom is left intact. Tell us the vehicle and the application and we configure the module and handle any later updates.
