Fitting aftermarket parking sensors to a modern vehicle used to mean finding a reverse-light feed and an ignition wire. On a CAN bus vehicle those simple wires are harder to find, and cutting into the loom is best avoided. A CAN interface solves it by reading the signals the sensor kit needs directly from the bus.
Arming and muting at the right time
Good parking sensor behaviour is about timing. The sensors should be active when you are manoeuvring and silent once you drive off. The interface reads road speed and gear position from the vehicle bus, so it can arm the sensors below a set speed and mute them above it. Rear sensors can follow reverse gear, and front sensors can be brought in at low speed and then muted as you pull away.
Choosing the unit
For a rear-only fit, the CAN KONTROL PARK REAR reads reverse gear off the bus. For front sensors that need speed-based muting, the CAN KONTROL PARK FRONT handles the low-speed arm and drive-away mute. Where you want both ends managed together, the CAN KONTROL PARK DUAL covers front and rear from one module.
All three are built on the i2CAN platform, designed and manufactured in the UK by Intellitec, part of Scorpion Group. One configurable platform covers the range, set up to the vehicle and the sensor kit rather than swapped for a different box each time.
What to tell us
Tell us the make, model and year, whether you are fitting front, rear or both, and the sensor kit you are using. We confirm the right unit and configure the arm and mute behaviour for the vehicle.
