Upgrading to an aftermarket head unit often means the steering wheel buttons stop working, because those controls run over the vehicle CAN bus rather than through simple wires to the stereo. A CAN interface reads the button presses off the bus and passes them to the new head unit, so the controls carry over.
Keeping the wheel buttons alive
When you press volume, track or phone on the wheel, the vehicle broadcasts that on the bus. The interface reads it and translates it into something the aftermarket head unit understands, so the wheel controls keep working with the new stereo. The CAN KONTROL SWC is aimed at exactly this, reading the steering wheel controls off the bus and passing them across. Which buttons carry over depends on the vehicle and the head unit, so we confirm the mapping rather than assume it.
Where navigation and other signals come in
Some installs need more than the wheel buttons, for example navigation-related signals or reverse triggering handled alongside the controls. The CAN KONTROL NAV is aimed at those wider requirements. Tell us what the head unit expects and we confirm whether one unit covers the job.
Both are built on the i2CAN platform, designed and manufactured in the UK by Intellitec, part of Scorpion Group. One configurable platform covers the range, and on vehicles under warranty the bus can be read with a no-cut inductive reader.
What to tell us
Tell us the make, model and year, and the head unit you are fitting along with the controls you want to keep. We confirm what maps across and configure the unit for the vehicle.
