Reverse cameras normally switch on from the reverse-light feed. On a modern vehicle that feed can be hard to reach, buried in the loom, or awkward to tap without disturbing wiring you would rather leave alone. A CAN interface reads reverse gear off the vehicle bus instead, so the camera has a clean trigger without a splice.
Reading reverse off the bus
When you select reverse, the vehicle broadcasts that on the CAN bus. The interface reads it and switches the camera or monitor on, then drops it again when you come out of reverse. Because the trigger comes from the bus rather than a spliced wire, the fit is tidier and there is no cutting into the reverse-light circuit.
Single camera or a full multi-view build
For a straightforward reversing camera, the CAN KONTROL CAMERA reads reverse gear off the bus and switches the camera on selection.
For larger vehicles running several cameras, or for DVS and FORS compliance work where multiple views and triggers are involved, the CAN KONTROL CAMERA 8 is built for multi-camera installations.
Both are part of the i2CAN platform, designed and manufactured in the UK by Intellitec, part of Scorpion Group. One configurable platform covers the range, set up to the vehicle and the camera system rather than swapped for a different box each time.
What to tell us
Tell us the make, model and year, and the camera or monitor system you are fitting, including how many views you need to manage. We confirm the right unit and configure the trigger for the vehicle.
